Sight Concern Event

National Eye Health Week Graphic-Introduction 2024

Monday 23rd September, King’s House Bedford245 Ampthill Road, Bedford MK42 9AZ from 10am – 2pm.

Come and talk to us and meet other organisations who can support you including Healthwatch Bedford Borough, Age UK Bedfordshire, Blind Veterans UK, Citizens Advice Bedford Borough, Voiceability, RNIB, Macular, Bedfordshire Sight Loss Councils, Mind BLMK and more.

Free teas and coffees plus some light bites provided. Event includes a Mindfulness session delivered by Mind BLMK at 11 – 11.30 and opportunity to discuss Mindfulness with an instructor from 11.30 – 12; Seated Dance session delivered by Imagination Dance from 12 – 12.30; our Blind Bowls Champion will show you and help you participate in bowls as well as Cocoon sunglasses demonstrations. There will also be Sighted Guiding and Visual Awareness Training for those interested in learning how to guide your friend, family member or patient (please sign up when you arrive).

Ampthill Library

Tuesday 24th September, Ampthill Library1 Dunstable Road, Ampthill MK45 2NL from 9.30am – 12.30pm.

Come and chat to Sight Concern’s Maureen and Kathie about living with sight loss. Maureen will be able to discuss benefits, concessions, as well as social groups and befriending opportunities. Kathie will be able to discuss ways to look after your eye health, make the most of your remaining vision and our display of magnifiers, sun shields and other low vision aids that we are able to provide through our Low Vision Service.

Bedford’s Harpur Shopping Centre

Come and chat to our Visually Impaired Champion George about living with sight loss and useful living aids including mobile phone free assistive technology

Luton Point shopping Mall

Wednesday 25th September, Luton Point (previously called The Mall) Shopping Centre – from 10am – 2pm. Our Visually Impaired Champion George will be in the Central Square area inside the shopping centre, so please pop by and talk to us there about living with sight loss and useful living aids including mobile phone free assistive technology.

Family Group Pop Up Clapham Bedford

Saturday 28th September, Family Group Bedford Pop Up event - Join us at Clapham Methodist Church MK41 6EQ from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. The whole family is welcome including siblings. Our aim is to provide a caring, fun, friendly environment for you and your family to enjoy. Our staff and volunteers are on hand with craft activities and games for the children, allowing adults time to connect with other parents over a cup of tea.
