Get Set Progress Internship Programme
Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB are collaborating with organisations from both the sight loss and wider charity sector as well as corporate organisations to create new opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to find employment through the Get Set Progress (GSP) Internship programme. Sight Concern Bedfordshire is delighted to be offering an internship as part of the Get Set Progress scheme.
About the Role
Sight Concern Bedfordshire is seeking a passionate and dedicated Service Support Intern to join our growing team. In this new role, you will work across different services, providing tailored support to improve people's quality of life.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible difference in your community by delivering sight support services that promote independence, wellbeing, and informed choices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Volunteer Manager and Operations Manager to deliver sight loss services.
- Support the delivery of volunteer led services, including managing waiting lists and allocating spaces at social clubs.
- Support the administration of the Low Vision service including clinic bookings, follow up and stock coordination.
- Support Operations Manager in meeting Strategic Objective – Increase Charity Profile.
- Maintain effective and appropriate data-base records for all clients contacted – including demographic information and consent;
- Work as member of SCB staff team to support visitors to SCB and respond to telephone enquiries, including from service users.

- Motivated to grow within our organisation, with opportunities for further training and development (including specialist sight loss training and degree-level qualifications).
- A confident and empathetic communicator who is comfortable with home visits and benefits advice.
Essential Skills and Experience:
This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010
- Willingness to travel to the TPT Hub in London for intern development events throughout the course of the internship programme (costs covered by TPT).
- Having not previously undertaken the Get Set Progress internship programme.

- Adaptable and willing to work flexibly as required by the demands of the role and the charity’s activities
- Capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently, prioritising workload effectively, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced but extremely supportive environment.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, able to provide and receive feedback positively, and works well as part of a team to achieve common goals.
- Meticulous in handling administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all aspects of workable to work on their own initiative and liaise with their manager as and when required;
- Able to respond to callers and visitors in a manner which is both professional and friendly at the same time.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to the nature of the role and responsibilities involved.
